Fethiye

Fethiye is a city and district of Muğla Province in the Aegean region of Turkey. Fethiye, which has a unique beach like Ölüdeniz, is one of the important tourism centers of Turkey. Fethiye which is very rich in ancient and more recent artifacts, displays and testifies to the successive chain of civilizations that existed in the area, starting with the ancient Lycians. It is not easy to visit the region surrounding Fethiye in just a few days. Here are all you will need and want for a holiday. History, culture, nature, beaches, aqua sports, the best paragliding in Turkey, the most impressive historical sites, best coves, cuisine and shopping. The number of places that you can get such full on holiday and enjoy it other than Fethiye itself are rare.

ÖLÜDENİZ (BLUE LAGOON) Nature Park

Ölüdeniz and Belcekız Beach are a natural wonder known as “Blue Heaven” all over the world. Ölüdeniz, one of the most important destinations in world tourism; Kumburnu Nature Park and Belceğiz Beach are 15 km away from Fethiye town center and are located at the foothills of Babadağ with a convenient location for paragliding. Belceğiz Beach offers opportunities for all kinds of water sports while benefiting from the sea, sand and sun. You can also explore the world-famous Butterfly Valley and Ölüdeniz bays with daily boats departing from the beach, and cool off in the most beautiful bays of the Mediterranean.

HİSARÖNÜ

Hisarönü and Ovacık, which have become Fethiye’s favorite tourism centers in recent years, are cute towns among pine forests. Ovacık is 6 km from the city center. Its distance to Ölüdeniz is 5 km. The town has turned into a touristic center with many new hotels and holiday villages. Being between Ölüdeniz and Fethiye and being close enough to go to Ölüdeniz and Fethiye in 10 minutes if desired, has made it an ideal place for those who want to stay away from the city crowd.

BUTTERFLY VALLEY Qualified Natural Protected Area

“Butterfly Valley”, one of the most beautiful coves of Fethiye, is the habitat of 30 species of diurnal and 40 species of night butterflies for nine to ten months, starting from spring. You can reach the valley by shuttle boats departing from Ölüdeniz, a half-hour journey away. It is also one of the stops where boats making daily tours from Ölüdeniz take a break. The waterfall can be seen with a short walk up the valley.

KAYA VILLAGE Province Center

Kaya Village is a place where different cultures merge from ancient Karmylassos to the present day; It offers a visual feast with its typical Mediterranean architecture, stone houses, churches, schools, chapels, workshops, other structures and narrow streets built on the slopes without blocking the light of each other. After the Treaty of Lausanne, when the Greeks were sent away as a result of the population exchange, the village took on its current ghost town appearance. Many accommodation facilities, steakhouses, pancake shops and wine houses provide service in the village. The distance between Hisarönü and Kayaköy is 5 km.

TOMBS OF THE KINGS Province Center

Lycian Rock Tombs draw attention with their 4th century BC artifacts from the Lycian period in the city. These are tombs carved into natural rock that have become the symbol of the city.

Çalış Beach, located 5 km north of Fethiye, is another tourism center of the region full of beauties.

SAKLIKENT National Park

44 km from the city center. It is estimated that the canyon located in the distance was formed by geological cracking thousands of years ago. Saklıkent canyon, which was declared a national park and protected in 1996, is approximately 18 km long and its height varies between 200 and 600 meters. Since the rock gap narrows to 2 meters at some points, it is almost impossible to see the sky from here.

TLOS Province Center

The ancient city of Tlos is on the Unesco World Heritage Tentative List. Tlos, 42 km from Fethiye, is one of the oldest settlements in Lycia, which the Hittites defined as Dlawa and survived until the 19th century. Since Tlos is known as the sports city of Lycia, its stadium is also of great importance.

CADIANDA Province Center

The ancient city of Cadianda is located near Üzümlü, 24 km from Fethiye town centre.

ST. NICHOLAS ISLAND Province Center

The Island is believed to have been the home of Santa Claus “The saint of sailers” The Island is famed by the church constructed in his honour during the 4th Century. St Nicholas Island is easily accessible by boat from either Ölüdeniz or Gemile Cove. Gemile Cove is located on the outskirts of Kayaköy and is a favourite stop point for many yachts and sailboats crusising the area.
